Job Profile and Description:
A bank teller is one of the most important employees in a bank as he is a person who has to work the most with customers throughout the day and thus is responsible for keeping up the image of the bank through his dealings and interactions. The bank teller undertakes bank transactions and has to be alert to detect any fraudulent transactions, notes, cheques etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Bank tellers help customers for basic transactions like cheque encashment, taking deposits to credit to their savings account or make withdrawals etc
- They have to issue negotiable items like cashier’s cheques, traveler’s cheques, money orders, make drafts or give foreign exchange
- While interacting with customers, they tell them about the different products and services of the banks like loans or any other schemes, mortgages, etc
- They also do transactions in the field of business referrals like trust, insurance
- Tellers also need to guide customers or answer their queries
- They must keep accurate balance in their drawers check if everything is accounted for
Skills and Specifications
- Tellers must have good communication skills and need to be friendly while interacting with the customers
- They must be helpful and make things simple for customers
- They must have basic knowledge of computers which will help them to work better
- They have to work for long hours, sometimes also during holidays, so they should be able to deal with stress
- They must be calm when interacting with unhappy customers
- They must have exceptional math skills and be very quick but accurate while handling transactions
- They must be honest and maintain customer confidentiality
Education and Qualifications
One needs to have a bachelor’s degree in commerce with subjects like economics; accounting, finance or one can also go for an MBA.
