A medical representative is an individual who forms a link between healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical or medical companies. These individuals are basically responsible for the sales of pharmaceutical products and equipments to hospitals, medical centers and clinics etc. A medical representative is generally employed in a particular area where he/she has to get the maximum sales by selling of the medical products and services etc.

Education and Training Required:

Employers generally prefer individuals with a bachelor’s or diploma degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine or nursing etc.  In order to do well at the job, one can also obtain a business or marketing degree or diploma. One also needs to have good knowledge of medicines, prescription drugs and related products.

Getting the Job:

To get the job as a medical representative, one needs to have strong marketing sense and knowledge of pharmaceutical products etc.  One needs to apply in a pharmaceutical company in order to get the job and may also require some training before getting the real flavor of the job.

Advancements, Possibilities and Employment Outlook:

There are good enough job opportunities for individuals who wish to become medical representatives.  But due to company mergers etc, one may have to face competition to get the job. Once a person bags the job, the advancement possibilities are not great but one may be promoted to the position of the regional sales manager for the area.

Working Conditions:

The working nature of a medical representative involves him/her to travel to and fro the company’s office and medical centers and hospitals etc. they have to arrange and attend meetings with doctors in order to sell the pharmaceutical products etc.

Earnings and Benefits:

The average median income of an individual who is employed as a medical representative is $50000. This figure may also depend upon the number of sales the candidate manages to make.
