A sales representative is an individual belonging to the sales department of a company who is responsible for selling various kinds of products to clients and customers. Sales representatives must have thorough knowledge and information of the product of service produced or sold by the company and must be able to sell it to potential clients. Every industry and every company needs sales representatives and retail outlets are incomplete without them.

Education and Training Required:

Although there are no specific or formal educational requirements for sales representatives, employers prefer those candidates who have bachelor’s degree or diploma in any field, preferably business administration.  This requirement is also more valid in the case when the representative has to sell technical products or services.

Getting the Job:

If one wishes to work as a sales representative, he/she can either send a job application level with a resume to the desired company or may sit for walk-in interviews. This is an entry level position and hence one cannot get this job by the means of a promotion etc.

Advancements, Possibilities and Employment Outlook:

There are ample job possibilities since every company, store, retail outlet etc needs sales representatives. As far as advancements in this field are concerned, a sales representative may be promoted to the position of a sales supervisor or a district manager of sales etc after a few years of experience. The employment outlook in this field looks good overall.

Working Conditions:

Sales representatives work both in offices and on the field. Their work timings generally start from 9 am and go on till 5 pm in the evening. Sales representatives may have to make calls, reply to emails etc.

The average median salary which can be expected by a person who is working as a sales representative is $71340.
